How Important is Religion?

To certain individuals, religion is what they base most or all of their life descisons around. Others just do whatever feels right. But the question becomes, in America today, how relevant is religion actually? Overtime have we become a more religious based society, or have we evolved from it? In the Puritan age, God was their only focus. Their, "hope and treasure [lied] above," (Bradstreet, line 54). Which basically means they all knew they had a home in heaven with God, because they devoted their lives to Him. Today we still have the concept of heaven and hell regardless of your preferred religion. Families are a determining factor to how religious you may be. If the family you are born into goes to church every Sunday, and praises God on a regular basis, you are most likely to adapt and follow those same traditions. And vise verse of course. If I do say so myself, America evolved to being less religious and devoted to just one God, but to adapting many, many other cultures. To me that is pretty darn cool. However, religion is still a touchy topic to discuss at times depending on your viewpoints. What's religion like in your household and is it a main focus to your family????. Columbus Discovered What????

Why does America have this really bad habit of celebrating the wrong people and the wrong things???? Do any of you even know what Columbus Day is about? No we are not celebrating a white man who discovered America. It is not a glorious day. Christopher Columbus was a man of hate, was apart of ripping the Native American's land from them, and carried no guilt. They were "just Indians being Indians" not bothering a single soul (108). The textbooks teach us, "in 1942, Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue," but what they aren't teaching us the awful things he did. America often brushes our dirty past under the rug while praising the wrong things. Not enough awareness is brought to Native Americans today and it's upsetting. As a minority myself, I understand the "punishment" they are experiencing (106). I believe we should not put Christopher on a high horse and instead we should kick him off. I say we celebrate not just Native Americans, but all the minirities mistreated on Indigenous People Day, who's with me???? Ooooohhhyeeaaaaa😎
